Pitchbury 1 – 5 dedham Athletic

Another sunny Sunday morning and yet another away game at Mile End, this week Dedham Athletic played Pitchbury.

Dedham won the toss and chose to kick off, with Paddi launching the ball forward into the path of Brad, who sprinted 35 meters incredibly quickly in order to put pressure on the Pitchbury defence.  This set the tone for the first half.

Dedham’s midfield totally dominated possession. They created a number of good goal scoring opportunities for the forward, however none were converted.

After 20 minutes, Dedham were awarded a free kick, some 25 yards from the opposing goal.

Team captain Paddi steps up and hits a thunderbolt hard and low through a large group of players. The keeper had no chance whatsoever, as the ball hit the back of the net to his left hand side.

Dedham kept piling on the pressure until half time.

Pitchbury kicked off the second half, with the Dedham players winning the ball back within seconds after applying pressure.

The second half then followed the pattern of the first, with Dedham dominating possession for the large part.

Dedham’s second goal was scored by Aaron, who, with his back to goal, played the ball to his right, spun his body and hit a powerful shot that the keeper who although got his hands to, could not catch.

Within 5 minutes, Pitchbury’s number 8, who was having a very good game, broke free. Beating the Dedham centre back, he then calmly scored passed “Chip” the Dedham keeper.

Pitchbury took heart from their goal and started to play their best football, causing Dedham some problems for a three to four-minute spell, after which Dan made a solo run into the Pitchbury penalty area, and was then brought down by a clumsy challenge. The referee had no option but to award a penalty, which Paddi duly scored.

Dedham now took command of the game, which stared to resemble a training session due to the amount of possession they had.

Aaron, ran down the right from the halfway line beating two Pitchbury players. As he was level with the penalty spot, he played a square pass to Dan, who had time to get the ball under control, before expertly slotting it home.

With two minutes to go, Brad found himself running into the left-hand side of the opponent’s penalty area as Tommie played a fantastic pass right in his path, which was dispatched low to the keepers right.

Another good win on the road for the Dedham boys!
